this one, she needs to see personally, because there's much more to talk about here than some stupid vampire trying to get her kicks in.
hesitantly, izumo hovers by the doorway, wondering just what she means to do, but... in the end, she just pushes forward, lifting a hand to knock. once. ]
[Masaomi opens the door while still laughing at something one of his roommates must have said, neck craned as he shouts a haughty "stuff it!" When he turns around and sees Izumo standing in front of him, however, he quickly sobers. His gaze wanders back into the room once more before he steps into the hall and shuts the apartment door behind him.
Izumo receives a small smile for her efforts, worn out and defeated. But for once, he doesn't try to lead the coming conversation to a safe topic before she can even start it.]
[ it's a little startling to see him laughing again. the last few times she'd seen him, the situations had been so horrible... she'd forgotten what his laughter sounded like.
for a moment, she feels the overwhelming urge to turn and leave. he's fine. he's laughing again, so he must be fine, what is she doing here, invading that kind of space?
but then she remembers who this is, who he likes to pretend he is, and she has to wonder just how genuine that laugh had been.
when he closes the door behind him and greets her, she takes a moment to look him over. he looks fine, but she knows that haven's biggest wounds don't show up on the outside.
if he isn't going to deflect, she might as well get straight to the point. ]
[The gash on his shoulder is little more than a faded scar now, a shape of lighter, tougher skin hidden beneath his sleeve much like the past bite marks on his wrist and elbow, each magically sealed by the event’s end. With his back to his apartment door, hands still resting on the knob behind him, Masaomi does seem fine if a little uncomfortable. Even then, it’s not the obvious sort of discomfort he’s displayed in the past. It’s a kind of weary resignation.]
Yeah, sure. I’m me, right? I don’t even really remember everything that happened.
[ it's an easy lie to catch; he isn't even trying, which is probably as unsettling as the truth itself, if not a little more. it makes her eyes narrow, her jaw clench lightly in one side, but she says nothing of it, because it's his demons, and she has no real right disturbing them.
the most she can do is show that she's there.
she gives a curt nod. ] Fine. [ tired, weary too, still healing, but fine. these past events had, thankfully, been more a strain on the body than the mind or heart.
but anyway... on to the true point of this visit. ]
I just wanted to make sure you weren't kicking yourself for what happened again. You couldn't help it, no one could. So if you are, quit it.
[There's no better word for them than demons. Unfortunately, Masaomi considers this most recent experience to be proof that he has no chance of defeating them himself. Why try when it will only hurt him and everyone else around him even more?
He can tell she's tired. Everyone must be. But he can't bring himself to ask about her back directly. He's not supposed to remember anyway, right? Her matter-of-fact summation saves him. It's so very her that he has to chuckle.]
No kicking. I promise. I'm not flexible enough for that.
[ perhaps that's haven's true plan all along. to take what you know of the world and of yourself, and flip them on their head. to make you realize you'll never win. ]
Doesn't mean you won't give it a good shot anyway. [ but she nods, as if accepting his reassurance, though it's probably nothing more than face value. she can't quite fault him for lying, if she's doing the exact same thing.
at least he knows. that's why she's there. ]
See you around, then. [ a final, curt nod before she turns away to head back towards her room. ]
